What is c-section scar therapy?

How is it helpful?

C-section scar therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment designed to improve scar mobility, reduce sensitivity and tissue restriction, and support optimal core and pelvic function following a cesarean birth. Treatment may include specialized soft tissue techniques, scar mobilization, guided movement strategies, and education tailored to your recovery goals.

Scar therapy can be beneficial at any stage of healing, as the body continues to remodel scar tissue long after the initial incision has healed:

0–6 Weeks Postpartum
During the early healing phase, treatment focuses on supporting recovery, managing discomfort, improving awareness of the incision area, and promoting gentle movement. Education is provided on scar care, posture, breathing mechanics, and safe return to daily activities while respecting the body's natural healing process.

6 Weeks–12 Months Postpartum
As healing progresses, scar tissue becomes more responsive to manual therapy and mobility techniques. Treatment may focus on improving scar mobility, reducing tightness or pulling sensations, addressing areas of numbness or sensitivity, and restoring optimal movement of the abdominal wall, pelvis, and surrounding tissues.

12 Months and Beyond
Even years after a cesarean birth, scar tissue can continue to contribute to discomfort, restricted movement, pelvic floor dysfunction, low back pain, or feelings of tightness through the abdomen and hips. Scar therapy can help improve tissue mobility, reduce long-standing restrictions, and support comfort and function during exercise, work, and daily activities.

Whether you are newly postpartum or many years removed from your cesarean delivery, treatment is tailored to your individual needs and goals. The aim is to help you move more comfortably, reconnect with your core, and feel confident in your body throughout every stage of recovery.
